تلتئم فصول هذا الكتاب في مدارات ثلاثة غير خفية التداخل والتواشح، فالقضايا النقدية المطروحة في الفصل الأول، وان اختصت بميدان أو بمجال مجدد (النقد الأدبي) من النشاط الفكري العربي الواسع والمتشعب، هي في صلب الحركة الثقافية العربية العامة التي يتوقف الفصل الثاني عند بعض من أبرز ظواهرها، أما الأعلام الثلاثة الذين يتناولهم الفصل الثالث فهم جميعاً من الشخصيات المتميزة التي تركت بتعليمها وكتاباتها أثراً في الوضع النقدي والثقافي لا يستهان به، وان لم يعرف أصحابه ما يستحقونه من عناية واهتمام، وليس ترابط الموضوعات المطروحة في هذا الكتاب، رغم أهميته. هو الذي يعلل اجتماعها ووحدتها بقدر ما يعللهما منهجية البحث وطريقة المعالجة، في هاتين المسألتين بالذات تتبلور قبل أن شيء آخر وجهة نظر محددة، وتتضح بعض الغايات المتوخاة من القضايا المستثارة، فالطابع النقدي العام الغالب على هذه الفصول وأبحاثها هو الطابع الحواري الذي يقيم نوعاً من الجدل المنهجي بصدد جملة من الأعمال والدراسات الأدبية والنقدية والثقافية، إن هذا الجدل إذ ينطلق من أطروحات وإجراءات هذه الأعمال والدراسات يحاول أن يتبين الأسئلة الشعرية والفكرية والاجتماعية التي تطرحها وتدعي الإجابة عنها، في سعي لرؤية مدى انسجام الأجوبة المستخلصة مع الأسئلة المفترضة من ناحية، ومدى تناسب هذه الأسئلة نفسها مع المعطيات الخاصة بالوضع والمرحلة اللذين تأتي في سياقهما من ناحية ثانية، وهو يتوسل ما يمكن اعتباره منهجاً تكاملياً بقدر ما يعتمد على مناهج نقدية حديثة عدة، يستدعيها تنوع البحث وتتطلبها الإحاطة الملائمة بها، لبلوغ تصور يعبر عن نظرة جديدة في الإنتاج الأدبي والثقافي العربي ويتيح شروطاً مناسبة للنقاش الذي ينبغي أن يتناوله، والذي يتطلع إلى إذكائه كتكملة وإنضاج وتطوير لما يشكله هذا الطرح نفسه من نتيجة للجدل المنهجي الممارس في حقول الدراسات الأدبية والفكرية.
