يندرج كتاب "أسئلة النقد والشعرية العربية" للدكتور سامي سويدان في سياق نقدي منهجي رصين يتمثل في بيان لوجهة نظر في دراسة النصوص الإبداعية، تمضي من "الحدود" التي توقفت عندها مساهمات سابقة لتشيد ما يمكن اعتباره منهجية مستحدثة ثلاثية الأبعاد. وهي منهجية متحمورة على المقاربة النصية التي تنطلق من وحدة النص او كليته لتحدد في بنيته القاعدة الثابتة والمتينة لدراسته.
وبالإستناد إلى تلك المقاربة بقسم المؤلف كتابه إلى قسمين تسبقها مقدمة في قضايا النقد ومسائل الشعرية بشكل عام، أما القسم الأول فتستحوذ مسائل الشعرية (العربية) على بابيه الأول الخاص بالطروحات الشعرية العربية القديمة، والثاني الخاص بالطروحات الشعرية الحديثة. وإذا كان الأول يستقصي الطروحات المذكورة في ميادينها أو مجالاتها الثلاثة، الفلسفي والديني والنقدي، فإن الثاني يتابعها في أبرز أوجهها المعاصرة حتى تجلياتها الثلاثة، الفلسفي والديني والنقدي، فإن الثاني يتابعها في أبرز أوجهها المعاصرة حتى تجلياتها الراهنة.
وأما القسم الثاني من هذا المؤلَف "النقد الحديث والمقاربات النصية" فيضم ثلاثة فصول، الفصل الأول منه "المنهجية والفعالية في النص النقدي العربي الحديث" وهذا الفصل يكاد يكون نوعاً من المسح الشامل لأنماط متعددة من النقد أو دراسة الأدب أو دراسة أنواع مختلفة من الشعرية مغلوطة، مع لفت النظر إلى المواقع المؤثرة التي يشغلها أصحابها، إلى الدور الخطير الذي تؤديه على أكثر من مستوى، والتنبيه إلى الضرورة الملحَة لتجاوزها. ويمكن اعتبار الفصل الثاني "النقد العربي الحديث والنص الأدبي/ وإشكاليات ورهانات" نوعاً من الإستغراق في نقد النقد السائد، والجدل بصدد الأحكام الصادرة عنه، وتبيَن الأسئلة التي يطرحها النقد على النص، والإفضاء إلى بلورة الأسس والقواعد المبدئية التي يجدر بمقاربة النصوص الأدبية الاستناد إليها بغية معرفة شعريتها. أما الفصل الثالث "التحليل الدلالي والنص: طروحات نظرية ومقاربات عملية" فهو خاص بمقاربة نصية محددة، المقاربة الدلالية، يوضَح الإنجازات العربية القديمة بشأنها، وما بلغته في الأعمال الغربية الحديثة من شأن، يعيَن أوجه القصور الراهن فيها، وينتهي إلى ذكر الخطوات المفترضة لتخطيَه.
