جوزيف مَسعد (بالإنجليزية: Joseph Massad ) (ولد في 1963) هو أستاذ سياسة العرب الحديثة وتاريخ الأفكار في جامعة كولومبيا. ركزت كتابته النظرية على القومية الفلسطينية والأردنية والإسرائيلية. من أشهر كتبه اشتهاء العرب (Desiring Arabs)، وهو كتاب يحكي عن تاريخ الشهوة الجنسية في العالم العربي. ومن بين كتبه الأخرى: آثار الاستعمار: خلق الهوية الوطنية في الأردن، والإصرار على المسألة الفلسطينية.

وظف الكاتب المنهج التاريخي وقدراته النقدية النصية في شرح الأحداث التي عاشها في العقد ونصف العقد الأخيرين، والتي تندرج في الحدث الكبير المتعلق باستعمار فلسطين وآثاره على المستعمر والمستعمر، رافضاً أي تكافؤ منطقي أو تاريخي بينهما كـ"طرفين"، بما في ذلك ما يقوم عليه من حديث عن عملية سلام. وإذا كان تفكيك الخطاب الصهيوني في المسألة اليهودية ذاتها وتجاه الفلسطينيين ومنتجه الاستيطاني العنصري في فلسطين الهم الأول لمقالاته هذه، فإنه لا يتردد في توجيه النقد (لا اللوم) إلى الضحية، وما أنتجته علاقتها بالمستعمر من وعي مشوه عند المثقفين والفئات الطفيلية المتعايشة على القضية، ثم على عملية السلام. يعيد الكتاب الاعتبار إلى مفاهيم نحيت جانباً في فترة تراجع المشروع الوطني الفلسطيني باعتبارها شعارات. فهو يثبت أن تنحيتها فهي المحكومة بالإيديولوجية والخضوع لعلاقات القوة، وأنه لا يمكن إطلاقاً فهم ما يجري دون العدة المفهومية المتمثلة في العنصرية والاستعمار الاستيطاني والفصل العنصري والتحرر وغيرها. إنه يعيد إليها الاعتبار في فهم واقع استعماري لا يفهم دونها، ويتطلب تجاهلها تعمية النظر عنه وتشويه الواقع والذات.
