جوزيف مَسعد (بالإنجليزية: Joseph Massad ) (ولد في 1963) هو أستاذ سياسة العرب الحديثة وتاريخ الأفكار في جامعة كولومبيا. ركزت كتابته النظرية على القومية الفلسطينية والأردنية والإسرائيلية. من أشهر كتبه اشتهاء العرب (Desiring Arabs)، وهو كتاب يحكي عن تاريخ الشهوة الجنسية في العالم العربي. ومن بين كتبه الأخرى: آثار الاستعمار: خلق الهوية الوطنية في الأردن، والإصرار على المسألة الفلسطينية.

«اشتهاء العرب» للكاتب جوزيف مسعد، ذلك المشروع المتميز الذى يغامر فى منطقة مجهولة هو بمثابة تتمة لكتاب «الاستشراق» لادوارد سعيد ولأعمال ميشيل فوكو حول الجنسانية. فبينما يركز مشروع سعيد على إنتاج المعرفة فى أوروبا عن العرب والمسلمين أثناء القرن التاسع عشر، والروابط المعقدة لهذا المشروع الاستعمارى والمسئولية المباشرة لتركيب ذات «الشرقي»، يسعى «اشتهاء العرب» بشكل آخر إلى سد الفجوة فى الدراسات الأكاديمية التى حللت التصوير الاستشراقى موضحاً تأثير الاستشراق و«النعرة العرقية «حسنة النية» فى خطاب الدفاع عن حقوق الإنسان» صفحة 418، على «تشكيل» إدراك العرب أنفسهم لذواتهم ولبعضهم البعض منذ نهضتهم فى القرن التاسع عشر صفحة 48. وعلى نفس القدر من الأهمية، فإن اشتهاء العرب يجيب على إغفال الدور الذى أداه المشروع الاستعمارى فى التصورات حول الجنسانية والشهوة فى كتاب فوكو المهم والرئيسى تاريخ الجنسانية.
