علي المقري كاتب وشاعر يمني. يعمل في الصحافة الثقافية منذ 1985. صدرت له عن دار الساقي رواية «طعم أسود... رائحة سوداء» التي رشّحت ضمن القائمة الطويلة لجائزة بوكر العربية 2008-2009.

Book Description
في بلادٍ وُصفت ببلادِ الثورة، وصارت تُعرف ببلاد القائد، يضطرُّ روائيٌّ للمساهمة في كتابة سيرة رئيسها، مع لجنة تعمل على توثيق وكتابة حياة القائد المُلهِم، التي "لا تشبه أي سيرة مكتوبة، أو حتى معاشة من قبل"، ومن حيث أنه "ليس بمفكر أو عبقري، وإنّما الملهم للفكر والعبقرية".
هكذا يعيش السارد/الروائي صراعاً داخلياً يتراوحُ بينَ أن يحصل على عائد مالي يساعده في علاج زوجته المريضة سماح، وما اعتبره فضيحةً في حياته الأدبية والشخصية، خاصّة بعد لقائه بابنة الرئيس الشيماء، صاحبةَ تجارب زواجٍ سابقة والمعجبة بروايته التي تصوِّر الحرمان واللوعة والتمرد الجنسي. لتطلب منه بعد عدة لقاءات أن يتزوجها سراً.
تتسارعُ الأحداثُ وتنقلبُ رأساً على عقب، حين تقومُ الثَّورة، حيثُ صار الكلّ ضدَّ الكلّ، وهنا يرصد الكاتبُ تحوُّلات الأشخاص وكشفهم عن هوياتهم الحقيقية، إذ بدت لهم الثورة وكأنها تعني التقارب مع الموت، أكثر من الحياة.
رواية "بلاد القائد" تقاربُ بعبقرية سردية ما يُشبه مآلات ديكتاتوريين عرب، وما لا يُشبه سيَرهم في شيء، لأنَّهم متفرِّدون حتى في جنون عظمتهم.
