ولد عام 1951 بالقاهرة.
تخرج في كلية التجارة بجامعة عين شمس - قسم إدارة الأعمال 1976.
متفرغ للإبداع الشعري.
شارك في تأسيس جماعة (أصوات) التي أصدرت بعض الدواوين والأعمال الإبداعية, كما أصدرت في أواخر الثمانينيات مجلة (الكتابة السوداء) التي لم تستمر وتوقفت بعد عدد واحد.
واهتمت الجماعة أيضاً بالآداب المكتوبة في الأربعينيات, وترجمة المكتوب منها بالفرنسية, وخاصة جورج حنين.
بدأ ينشر شعره عام 1974.
دواوينه الشعرية: الحلم ظل الوقت, الحلم ظل المسافة 1980- الغبار 1994 - قبل الماء..
فوق الحافة 1994 - لماذا أيها الماضي تنام في حديقتي 1995 - غريب على العائلة 2000 - بعيدا عن الكائنات 2000.
حصل على جائزة المنتدى الثقافي اللبناني في باريس 1998, وجائزة كفافيس 2000.
ممن كتبوا عنه: جابر عصفور, وصبري حافظ, ومحمود أمين العالم, وصلاح فضل.

المشهد هكذا، طابورٌ طويلٌ من الشعراء يمتد إلى آخر الجهة التي أنظر إليها، التي هي أول الطابور، عند هذه النقطة قد يُتاح لي أن ألمح طرابيش محمود سامي البارودي، وإسماعيل صبري، وأحمد شوقي بك وحافظ إبراهيم، وقبل حدود جسدي بعشرين خطوة إلى عشر خطوات أشم روائح صلاح عبد الصبور وأحمد حجازي وعفيفي مطر وأمل دنقل، ثم أتخيّل الطابور يمتد بعدي، وأتخيّل شاعرًا شابًا في العشرين من عمره، يراني على بُعد خطوةٍ تسبقه، يراني وسط مجموعةٍ لا تلبس الطرابيش، ولكن حزوزًا موروثة ظهرت في أعلى جباهها، أقصد جباهنا، كأنها آثار طرابيش مخلوعةٍ للتو، من مكاني سمعت النشاز الذي يصاحب الألحان المعزوفة هنا، والمعزوفة في أماكن أخرى كثيرة، الألحان كلها تزعم الخصوصية، خصوصية المكان، الشعر المصري، والشعر اللبناني، الشعر السوري والشعر العراقي، ربما بسبب هذه الألحان وهذا النشاز ازداد عمق الحزوز في جبيني، مما جعل الشاعر الشاب الذي في العشرين من عمره يشير بأصابعه العشرة إلى العرق النازف منّي، ساعتئذٍ كنت أترنّح تحت نشازٍ آخر .
