منذ أن تولّى قيادة بيت آل كرامي إثر وفاة والده الزعيم الاستقلالي عبد الحميد، سار رشيد كرامي في خط الوحدة الوطنية مستعدّا لدفع كل الأثمان، بما فيها الاستشهاد، للحفاظ على قيم الوطن ورسالته.

ويصل إلى الحرب الأهليّة، ويوثّق المؤلّف تمسّك كرامي بسياسته الوطنية مهما كانت الظروف، رافضًا، بأي شكل من الأشكال، تسليح محازبيه وأنصاره على غرار ما فعله غيره من الزعماء.
ويفتح الكتاب صفحات مأساويّة من تاريخ طرابلس خلال الحرب الأهلية، خاصة الصراع بين ياسر عرفات والسوريين وما آل إليه نتيجة جهود الحريصين على مصلحة المدينة والبلاد، وفي طليعتهم الرئيس كرامي.
ولا ينسى المؤلّف توثيق لحظات شخصية طريفة تظهر ما كان يتمتع به كرامي من روح فكاهة وطيبة ووفاء ومحبة.
وانفجرت العبوة، والطّوافة محلّقة.. وسالت دماء الرشيد. وبإراقتها ارتسمت فصول حكاية خالدة يسردها هذا الكتاب لهذا الجيل وللأجيال القادمة
