في الغربة الأولى عالمٌ يختلط فيه الواقع بالخيال. ينقلنا المؤلف عبر أحداث فترة تاريخية إبّان مرحلة التحول الكبير الذي شهدته المنطقة أثناء فترة الحرب العالمية الثانية امتداداً حتى حرب الـ48 وقيام إسرائيل وتهجير الفلسطينيين وظهور الحركات العمالية وبداية تكوين المشروع القومي الحديث.
هي أحداث منطلقة من «تجربة قرية الجبيل بالساحل الشرقي للمملكة العربية السعودية، إلاّ أنها يمكن أن تنطبق على أية قرية خليجية أخرى.»
