هذا الكتاب من "مجموعة ديوان الأساطير"، يطرح المواضيع الرئيسية التالية:
النعجة - الأم والشعير والكتّان، هي الرموز الثلاثة التي اعتمدتها الأساطير السومرية للتعبير عن بداية بناء الحضارة في بلاد الرافدين.
الإله البدوي مارتو، يستحقّ الزواج بابنة إله المدينة، وقد سَحَرهُ جمالُها، فألْهَبَ شجاعته.
إنليل، سيّد الآلهة وسيّد البلاد، يطلق بناء الحضارة ويجعل من مدينتهِ نِفرّ، محجّاً للآلهة لتقديم الولاء.
الإله نينورتا، يُخضِع في المنطقة الجبلية "شعب الحجارة" مكمِّلاً دور إنليل الحضاري.
أنكي، إله المعرفة ومهارة الصنع، يرسّخ أسس الحضارة وينظِّم البلاد وينقل الولاء إلى مدينته إريدو.
الإلهة إنانّا تتوجّه على "سفينة السماء" إلى إريدو لتعود منها محمّلة بأسس الحضارة، فترفع من شأنِ مدينتها أوروك.
إنانا/ عشتار "إلهة الإلهات" و"سيّدة المعارك"، تتابع ارتقاءَها عبر القرون، فيستمر تمجيد سلطتها.
بين المدرسة والحكمة، هو الفصل الأخير الذي يشهد على تعميم الحضارة وبناء الأسس والقيم الأخلاقية والاجتماعية من ضمن مجموعات من الحكم والأمثال السومرية والأكادية.
يُختتم هذا الكتاب، بسرد قصة أحيقار، حكيم بلاد نينوى، عارضاً موضوع بحثٍ حول الأصول السومرية والآرامية لكليلة ودمنة.
