كان من المؤسف أن كثيراً ممن أنصفوا النحاس باشا بعد وفاته، فاتهم أن يذكروا خيراً للسيدة العظيمة التي كانت تقف إلى جواره وتسانده وتشاركه همومه وأحلامه، متناسين في ذلك الحكمة الشهيرة التي طالما سمعوها بأن "وراء كل رجل عظيم امرأة"، بل إن بعضهم اعتبر تلك السيدة أساءت إلى النحاس باشا وإلى الوفد ومسيرته، رغم أن أعظم ما قدمه الوفد من انجازات وعطاء لمصر كان خلال السنوات التالية لزواج النحاس باشا بزينب الوكيل، كما أن أجمل لحظات المجد الوطني كان في ظل تربعها على قلب الزعيم الذي كان وما زال رمزاً نادراً للنقاء والشرف والوطنية.
