يتَّخذ كتاب «مصطفى النحاس» من شخصية ذلك الزعيم الوطنيِّ مادةً أصيلة في شرح جوهر العِظَم الروحي والتاريخي الذي تحمله كلمة الزعامة. ويتناول هذا الكتاب الأسرار المُؤَلِّفَةَ لشخص الزعيم، والصفات التي يُوسَمُ بها الزعماء، والظروف التي تتشكَّل بها الشخصية التي تنطبق عليها مقوِّمات الزعامة، كما يوضح الأخطار المُحْدِقَة بشخص الزعيم. ويَعْمِدُ عباس حافظ إلى استخدام أسلوب التداعي الذي يعتمد فيه على استلهام الشخصيات التاريخية التي صنعت صفحة العظمة في دفاتر التاريخ ليقارن بينها وبين شخصية الزعيم مصطفى النحاس، كما لم يجعل الزعامة حِكْرًا على الرجل، بل جعل للمرأة شَطْرًا من هذه الزعامة ليوضِّح دورها المحوري في إكمال معنى الزعامة.
