يشرح الأديب "عباس حافظ" في كتابه هذا جوهر العظمة، ويتحدث عن تاريخ كلمة الزّعامة، ويتناول الظّروف الّتي تخلق شخصيّة الزّعيم والصّفات المكوّنة لهذه الشخصيّة.
ويبيّن كذلك المخاطر التي يواجهها الزّعيم، مستخدمًا أسلوب التّداعي، إذ يستحضر شخصيّات تاريخية عظيمة، ويقارن بينها وبين شخصيّة الزّعيم مصطفى النحّاس.
كما إنّه لم يتجاهل دور المرأة المحوريّ والمكمّل لمعنى الزّعامة، بل كان لها في كتابه نصيبٌ وافرٌ، فكما يُقال: "وراء كلّ رجلٍ عظيم امرأة".
ومؤلّف هذا الكتاب، "عباس حافظ" هو أديبٌ وناقدٌ مسرحيّ، مصريّ، له الكثير من التّرجمات عن اللّغة الإنجليزية، وقد سخّر قلمه وأدواته في مسيرته النضالية، ولد في القاهرة سنة 1893، وتوفّي فيها سنة 1959.
