كان الميلاد في أتون الحرب العالمية، في وقت يخوض فيه آباؤنا معاركهم ضد الإنجليز وضد اليهود، وكانت الطفولة في جحيم النكبة، نصحوا على نار الرصاص ونتنفس رائحة البارود. وتبعثرنا في الجوار العربي في مخيمات كُتب عليها “غدًا عائدون”، وعلى نهرها “جسر العودة”. وكان الشباب في نكسة الأمة؛ لم نظن أن صباح 5 يونيو 1967، أثناء أدائنا لامتحانات جامعة القاهرة؛ يحمل كل هذا العذاب، انفطرت قلوبنا، وتذوقنا المرار، فقدنا أقدامنا وطيّرتنا رياح الإعصار كقش الحصاد. أُغلقت فلسطين في وجوهنا، فحملنا شهاداتنا وذكرياتنا إلى عواصمنا العربية؛ عين على العيش وأخرى على الوطن، وبسمة على من حلّ من أبنائنا، ودمعة على من رحل من آبائنا في غيابنا. مارسنا عروبتنا، شكرنا وعتبنا، وأنبتنا أشجارنا ورأينا ثمارنا، واشتعلت رؤوسنا بالشيب، ومازالت عيوننا على الوطن.
