والآن يسعدني أن ألفت الانتباه إلى هذه الرواية الوحيدة التي تركها لنا لامبيدوزا. رواية مكتملة بفصولها كلها. شمول رؤيةٍ تاريخيّة ممزوجةً بنظرةٍ ثاقبة للواقع الاجتماعيّ والسياسيّ في إيطاليا المعاصرة، وفي أيّامنا هذه. موهبةٌ حميدةٌ في السخرية. طاقةٌ شعريّة هائلة وأصيلة. إخراجٌ تعبيريّ متكامل وساحر. كلّ ما في هذه الرواية، في رأيي، يجعل منها عملاً أدبيّاً استثنائيّاً. روايةٌ من تلك الروايات التي تستغرق حياةً كاملة للعمل عليها. ومثلما في «نوّاب الملك» لفيديريكو دي روبيرتو، ففي «الفهد» أيضاً، نحن أمام عائلةٍ من أعلى الطبقات الأرستقراطيّة التي تعيش في جزيرة، عائلة بصيرة باللحظة التاريخيّة التي تشهد تحوّل النظام الحاكم، وتبدّل العصور، وانقلاب الأحوال. لا وجود لأيّ تفاصيل توثيقيّة تنهك متن الرواية، لا وجود لسماتٍ طبعانيّة موضوعيّة. ترتكز الرواية كُلّيّاً على شخصيّة واحدة، الأمير فابريتسيو سالينا، الذي قد يحمل تلميحات إلى والد جدّ الكاتب، لكنّه يمثّل لوحةً ذاتيّة للكاتب نفسه أيضاً، لوحةً شاعريّة وأسطوريّة. وهذا ما يجعلنا نراه أقرب إلى كاتبٍ معاصر أكثر من دي روبيرتو. فلنقل برانكاتي مثلاً، أو أحد أدباء بريطانيا في أوائل القرن العشرين، فورستر على سبيل المثال.
