طاقةٌ شعريّة هائلة وأصيلة، إخراجٌ تعبيريٌ متكامل وساحر، كلّ ما في هذه الرواية، في رأيي، يجعل منها عملاً أدبياً إستثنائياً، رواية من تلك الروايات التي تستعرق حياةً كاملة للعمل عليها، ومثلما في "نوّاب الملك" لفيديريكو دي روبيرتو، ففي "الفهد" أيضاً، نحن أمام عائلة من أعلى الطبقات الأرستقراطية التي تعيش في جزيرة، عائلة بصيرة باللحظة التاريخيّة التي تشهد تحول النظام الحاكم، وتبدّل العصور، وإنقلاب الأحوال.
لا وجود لأيّ تفاصيل توثيقيّة تنهك متن الرواية، لا وجود لسماتٍ طبعانيّة موضوعيّة، ترتكز الرواية كُلّيّاً على شخصيّة واحدة، الأمير فابريتسيو سالينا، الذي قد يحمل تلميحات إلى والد حِدّ الكاتب، لكنّه يمثّل لوحةً ذاتيّة للكاتب نفسه أيضاً.
لوحة شاعريّة وأسطوريّة، وهذا ما يجعلناه نراه أقراب إلى كاتب معاصر أكثر من دي روبيرتو، فلنقل برانكاتي مثلاً، أو أحد أدباء بريطانيا في أوائل القرن العشرين، فورستر على سبيل المثال.
