يقول فيلليني الذي لا يشبه غيره: «إن كل الفنون هي سيرة ذاتية، فالجوهرة هي سيرة ذاتية للمحارة التي صقلتها»، وهو بذلك يوسّع طيف السيرة الذاتية لتشمل عدة أفلام متقاربة أو متباعدة من أعماله، ولهذا نجد أن كل الأفلام التي ترصد، أو تلامس، شخصيات معروفة في الماضي أو الحاضر، تدخل في نسيج السيرة الذاتية، بتدرجات مختلفة، وأن نسبة هذه الأفلام أكثر مما نظن في الإنتاج السينمائي العالمي المتواصل، إذا أضفنا إليها ما يسمى «شبه سيرة ذاتية». اختار الناقد السينمائي علاء المفرجي، في هذا الكتاب، أن يرصد تنويعات من هذا «النوع» من الأفلام الأجنبية والعربية، بأساليبها وموضوعاتها المختلفة، ليكشف عما وراء المرئي فيها، صعوداً وهبوطاً، مع تأكيده على فكرة أن أفلام السيرة الذاتية لا يمكن أن تحيط بكامل تفاصيل سيرة الشخصية، لأن كل فيلم محكوم بمستوى السيناريو والمخرج والممثل، وتأتي أهمية كل فيلم من قدرته على تقديم الشخصية بطريقة توحي بأنها إعادة كتابة التاريخ بلغة الصورة، والكشف عن المسكوت عنه في النصوص المكتوبة أو المعلنة، وهذا ما نجده في الأفلام الثلاثة للمخرج اوليفر ستون عن الرؤساء الامريكيين السابقين جون كيندي ونيكسون وجورج بوش الابن. إن الأفلام التي تناولها الكتاب تغطي كل وجوه النشاطات والإبداعات البشرية من السياسة إلى العلوم النظرية والتطبيقية والفنون والعلاقات الإنسانية، في مسافات زمنية وجغرافية متباعدة أو متقاربة، مع محاولات جريئة لتشريح السلوك والتوجه الفكري والعاطفي، ونقاط القوة والضعف في حياة الشخصيات التي رسمتها الأفلام، إضافة إلى رصد نقاط الضعف والقوة في الأفلام نفسها، مع التركيز على وباء الفساد السياسي في القرن العشرين وما بعده، حيث اختفى التعريف القديم للسياسة: العلم والفن والأخلاق، وصار البديل: القتل العنصري والطائفي، والتدمير الشامل، والتهجير، والحرق بالأسلحة الكيماوية، والعودة إلى خرافات المذاهب في القرون الوسطى. بندر عبد الحميد
