تهدف هذه السلسلة إلى "التعريف" بأعلام الأدب فى مصر فى القرن العشرين، والتعريف بالطبع لا يعنى البحث المتخصص المسهب، وهو مالا نزعمه لهذه السلسلة، ولكنه من جهة أخرى قد يعنى مجرد التقديم "البيوجرافى" البسيط، وهو مالا تقصده بها أيضاً، إننا باختصار شديد نريد أن نقدم فى كل كتاب من كتب هذه السلسلة دراسة جادة لحياة الأديب موضوع الكتاب، وتقويما نقدياً جاداً ومحايداً لأهم أعماله ومنجزاته، وقائمة بيلوجرافية مصنفة، تضم ما نشر له من كتب ومقالات وأحاديث صحفية، وما كتب حوله وحول أعماله من كتب وأبحاث ومقالات، باللغات العربية والأجنبية.
هذا وقد بدأنا السلسلة بطه حسين لأسباب مختلفة، من بينها أن جيل طه حسين هو الجيل الذى خطا بالأدب خطوات فساحا، وقدم أول إسهام حقيقى فى مجال الدراسة الأدبية، وفى الميدان الثقافى بشكل عام.
وقد قسمنا الكتاب إلى أقسام ثلاثة، يتناول أولها حياة طه حسين، ويتضمن ثانيها دراسة ةقويماً لأهم أعماله فى المجالات المتنوعة، ويضم ثالثها قائمة بيلوجرافية بما استطعنا جمعه له أو عنه من كتب ومقالات وأبحاث وأحاديث باللغات المختلفة.
