محمد بن علي بن عطية الحارثي، أبو طالب: واعظ زاهد، فقيه.
من أهل الجبل (بين بغداد وواسط) نشأ واشتهر بمكة.
ورحل إلى البصرة فاتهم بالاعتزال.
وسكن بغداد فوعظ فيها، فحفظ عنه الناس أقوالا هجروه من أجلها.
وتوفي ببغداد.
له (قوت القلوب - ط) في التصوف، مجلدان، قال الخطيب البغدادي: ذكر فيه أشياء منكرة مستشنعة في الصفات، و (علم القلوب - خ) و (أربعون حديثا) أخرجها لنفسه .

يتكلم هذا الكتاب عن معاملة المحبوب ووصف طريق المريد إلى مقام التوحيد، تصنيف الشيخ أبي طالب محمد بن علي بن عطية الحارثي المكي رضي اللّه عنه يشتمل على ثمانية وأربعين فصلاً هذا ذكرها: الفصل الأول: في ذكر الآي التي فيها المعاملات.
الفصل الثاني: في الآي التي فيها ذكر أوراد الليل والنهار.
الفصل الثالث: في ذكر عمل المريد في اليوم والليلة.
الفصل الرابع: في ذكر ما يستحب من الذكر وقراءة الآي المندوب إليها بعد التسليم من صلاة الصبح...و هكذا ..حمل الكتاب وإستفد منه .
