الإنسان مدني بطبعه لأنه يأنس بالناس، ولا يستطيع الاستغناء عن الاحتكاك الجيد، والتكيّف، والتعلّم المفيد منهم، ولأن الإنسان يمر بمتغيرات كثيرة، تؤثر في عاداته، فإن الطفل قد يرغب عن الآخرين، فيحب الوحدة، ويكره الاختلاط بالناس، وقد تقلل المواقف السلبية من تفاعل الفرد الاجتماعي، فيسلك سلوكًا سلبيًا، يعيقه عن التواصل مع الغير.
وعرّف علماء التربية والنفس أهمية الجانب الاجتماعي، فتحدثوا عن ضرورة مخالطة الناس بالحسنى، وحثوا على تجنب العزلة، وحذروا من آفاتها، وعدّد (أبو حامد الغزالي) فوائد ودواعي التواصل الاجتماعي، فذكر الفوائد التالية: التعليم والتعلم، والنفع والانتفاع، والتأديب والتأدب، والاستئناس والإيناس، ونيل الثواب، واعتياد التواضع، واستفادة التجارب من مشاهدة الأحوال، والاعتبار بها. ( ) ..
كما حثنا النبي × على ضرورة هذا الاختلاط والتواصل، بقوله: " المؤمن الذي يخالط الناس، ويصبر على أذاهم، أعظم أجرًا من الذي لا يخالط الناس، ولا يصبر على أذاهم" ( )
فالطفل الخجول، هو الذي لا يخالط بيئته المحيطة به، ويشعر بالخجل الشديد، لدرجة كبيرة، تؤثر على سلوكه، فيمنعه الخجل من فوائد الاستعانة بخبرات الآخرين، والمشاركة في أنشطتهم، واللعب معهم، والاستفادة منهم.
ومن ثم كان (ابن سينا) ممن يفضلون أن يذهب الطفل إلى الكتاتيب، ولا يحبذ فكرة المؤدب [المدرس الخاص]، فالجلوس مع الصبيان يبعد عن الصبي السأم، ويدفعه للتنافس، والاستفادة من زملائه، كما يعدّه للتعايش مع أفراد المجتمع، والاختلاط الحسن بهم.
