منذ الخمسينيات، توالت الدراسات والأبحاث حول هذا الرائز في جامعات فرنسا، خاصة مع ظهور أعمال التحليل النفسي بصفة مكثفة مع المحللين النفسيين. ويجب الذكر، بأن هذه الأبحاث والدراسات أدخلت عدة تعديلات حول هذا الإختبار لاسيما منذ أن انضمت «دوبراي» Debray سنة 1970 إلى “شنتوب”، وقد ركزت أبحاث كل منهما في التفسيرات، على البنية الأوديبية للصراعات التي يسردها المفحوص ويستنتجها الفاحص من قصصه.
أكدت «شنتوب» أن لوحات T.A.T ترجع إلى صراعات مرّ بها كل إنسان، لأن في أغلب اللوحات هناك مرجع دائم وهو: التعامل مع الليبيدو والعدوانية في إطار إشكالية موجودة في جميع القصص. ولكن تختلف هذه الإيحاءات (الليبيدية والعدوانية) باختلاف الجنس والأجيال، ولتحليل هذا النوع من المادة كان فمن الضروري الرجوع إلى :” نوعية البناء الأوديبي”.
