سيكون محتوى هذا الكتاب، للعديد إن لم يكن للأغلبية، شيئا جديدًا على نحو لافت. سيكون بمثابة صدمة للبعض، مثل الجلد بالسوط أو ضربة على الرأس، وللبعض الآخر سيكون بمثابة تأكيد على طريقة التربية التي يتبعونها بالفعل، وسيمدهم بالرؤى والدعم الذي ببساطة لا يستطيعون إيجاده في معظم الأماكن.
أما بالنسبة للعديد ومن ضمنهم أنا ممن لديهم أبناء بالغون، السؤال الذي سيتبادر إلى أذهاننا هو: "أين كان هذا الكتاب عندما كنت أربي أبنائي؟".
الحقيقة البسيطة هي أننا كنا غير مدركين للرؤى المتعمقة التي تشاركها د. شيفالي تساباري معنا في هذا الكتاب. على الرغم من أننا أحببنا أطفالنا وبذلنا من أجلهم أقصى ما في وسعنا، فأساليبنا قامت على نوع التربية التي مررنا بها في نشأتنا، فلم نكن نعرف جيدًا كيف نربي أطفالنا بشكل مختلف – بطريقة أكثر لطفًا ونفعًا، ما يجعلهم أشخاصًا بالغين واثقين بأنفسهم، وسعداء، ومسئولين.
لقد تبادرت إلى ذهني كلمات أغنية من ألبوم غنائي شهير: "هل يمكنني البدء مجددًا، رجاءً؟"، والخبر الجيد هنا أن الإجابة هي "نعم!" للآباء أو أي شخص مشترك في رعاية الأطفال.
عندما ننظر إلى الطريقة التي تعمل بها المجتمعات منذ فترة زمنية طويلة، سنجد أن الكثير من الأشياء المقبولة بحكم العادات مثل "طريقة فعل الأشياء" لم تعد تجدي معنا نفعًا في هذا العهد الذي يتسم بالحرية، والامتيازات، والوعي المتزايد. إن التشققات العميقة في مؤسسات المجتمع التي جاءت نتيجة للتغييرات الهائلة التي نمر بها صارت ملحوظة في كل مكان – لا سيما أسرنا وأطفالنا.
