قبل عشرة أعوام من البدء في مشروع هذا الكتاب، توفي ابني الصغير. وبعد بضعة أشهر من موته، أحضرت لي "ديبي فوكس" لوحة جميلة له بالألوان المائية، كانت قد رسمتها من صورته في حفل التأبين. واعتبرت هذه الهدية أحد أكثر الأشياء العزيزة على قلبي.
وعندما سألت نفسي: "كيف نختار صورًا إيضاحية لكتاب موجه للأطفال يتحدث عن المواد الإباحية؟" كنت أعرف أنني أريد أن تكون الرسوم الإيضاحية بالألوان المائية؛ وأنها ينبغي أن تكون كلاسيكية ولطيفة لتخفف من قسوة الموضوع؛ وأن تكون حقيقية وليست كاريكاتورية – لم أكن أريد أن أخاطر بالتقليل من هذه المشكلة الخطيرة.
وكان من الطبيعي أن نختار ديبي لتصمم الرسوم الإيضاحية الواقعية والجميلة التي نحتاج إليها، وأنا ممتنة لقبولها التحدي. كانت تحلم بالعمل معنا، وقد أظهرت صبرًا ومرونة لا حدود لهما. نحن نؤمن بأن رسوماتها جعلت الكتاب أكثر راحة وجاذبية للآباء والأمهات والأطفال.
