"ودارت كؤوس القهوة والشاي، ثم تعلّقت عيناي بنجاة، تقاطيعها، جيدها المرمري، جمالها الطاغي، كأنّي أراها للمرّة الأولى: وجه مستدير وضيء، عينان سوداوان مشوبتان بحياء فطريّ، وخدان متورّدان. ثم طلاقة في الحديث وصوت هامس ينساب كما النسيم ملآنَ بروائح الياسمين وباقات الورد. تأخذ من قهوتها رشفة، يمرّ طرف لسانها على شفّة صغيرة شهيّة، تعضّها، فأستحضر قول يزيد بن معاوية عن عناب وبرد حبيبته. تغمض عينيها بين رشفة وأخرى، وكأني بها تهرب من لسع نظراتي، وأنا في غيبوبتي، غارق في التمعّن والتملّي. أتحسّس حسن الغزالة التونسية التي قدِمتْ إلى محرابي، فيهرب الضيق وتحلّ السكينة والارتياح."
