يكثر ذكر الحرية فى هذا العصر أكثر من أى عصر مضى، والكل يتحدث عن الحرية منظورًا إليها من حيث اهتمامات كل متحدث ومصالحه. فنجد من يتحدث عن الحرية السياسية وعن حرية الضمير وحرية الشعوب وحرية المرأة وحرية العقيدة، والحرية الجامعية، والحرية الشخصية،..،.. إلى آخر أنواع وألوان الحريات، ومنذ القدم والإنسان يحارب ويناضل ويدفع الغالى والنفيس فى سبيل الحرية، وفى أحيان كثيرة قد يدفع حياته ثمنًا لها.... وأصبحت الحرية هى هم كل الشعوب بمختلف أجناسهم ودياناتهم وقامت المسيرات والثورات والحروب، وسالت الدماء فى كل مكان من أجل الحرية، وأصبحت كلمة الحرية تعنى الحياة والأمل والسعادة. والحرية ليست علم يدرس أو مهارة تكتسب إنها نزعة وحاجة إنسانية وهى كالطعام والشراب. فأنت لا بد أن تكون حرًا لكى تعيش إنسانًا لا حيوانًا تقاد حيث يشاء الآخرون.. وكما أنك تبحث عن الطعام والشراب فالحرية كذلك يجب أن تبحث عنها وتسعى لتحصيلها. والحرية ليست حكرًا على فئة معينة، بل هى لكافة الناس، الكل من حقه أن يعيش حرًا؛ لقد ولدنا أحرارًا فلما نستعبد بعضنا بعض؟
