يعتبر البحث العلمي ركيزة أساسية في تطور مسيرة الشعوب الحضارية, وتتنوع أشكال البحث العلمي المستند علي قواعد منهجية محددة, لتشمل المناهج الوصفية والتاريخية والتجريبية والإكلينيكية.
لقد أصبح البحث العلمي في الحضارة الحديثة يخلق إمكانات جديدة, ويغير في أساليب الإنتاج ويعيد تشكيل المجتمعات وتنظيمها فيدخل التطور في كل مكان... والحديث عن المجتمع العلمي في العصر الحاضر لا يتناول وصفاً لمجتمع في المستقبل بل وصفاً لمجتمع قام.
وتعتبر عملية جمع البيانات لأغراض التقويم والبحث العلمي من المراحل الهامة التي تحتاج إلي عناية خاصة من قبل الباحث.. ذلك أن قيمة البحث ونتائجه ترتبط أرتباطاً وثيقاً بالمنهج الذي يتبعه الباحث, كما ينبغي علي الباحث أن يصمم بحثه ويحدد أدواته التي سوف يستخدمها بطريقة واضحة حتي يتمكن من تحقيق أهداف بحثه, وعليه أيضاً أن يحدد جميع الوسائل والأدوات التي سوف يستخدمها في كل مرحلة من مراحل بحثه.
وتكتسب البيانات بوجه عام قيمتها بقدر ما نلقي من ضوء علي المشكلة, وبقدر ما تساعد علي إيجاد حل له, وتجمع بيانات البحث بوسائل وأدوات متعددة من أهمها المقاييس والأختبارات والأستبيانات والمقابلة والملاحظة.. ومن ثم كان هذا الكتاب عن أدوات ووسائل جمع البيانات في البحوث النفسية والتربوية نستعرض فيه تلك الأدوات وهي (المقاييس, الأستبيانات, أستطلاعات, الرأي, المقابلة, الملاحظة).
وهذا الكتاب يمكن أن يكون مرجع دراسي تم إعداده لتنمية المهارات والمعارف التي يحتاج إليها الطالب الجامعي في فهم ومعرفة الجوانب الهامة المتعلقة بأدوات جمع البيانات في البحوث العلمية في مجال علم النفس والتربية, والتي يحتاج إليها أيضاً الباحثين في بحوثهم لأختبار الوسيلة أو الأداة المناسبة التي تمكنه من الإجابة علي الأسئلة التي يطرحها بحثه بدقة.. وأتمني من الله أن أكون قد وفقت في عرض الموضوع, وأن ينتفع منه الطلاب والباحثين المنفعة المرجوة.
