على مسرح أحداث هذه الرواية، وفي لحظات كثيرة تقمصت شخصية هذا العربي (عثمان بن الحويرث) وملأني إحساس بأنني هو.. نعم أنا الملك الذى تصور حتى لحظة مماته الدرامي، بأنه قد امتلك مكة وصار ملكًا على الصحراء. وطوال العرض كانت تطل من عيني، وتعتمل في روحي حيرة الباحث عن الحقيقة، فمنذ تاريخي الأول، لم يقبل شموخي الركوع للأحجار، تلك الأصنام التي جلبها عمرو بن لحى الخزاعي، ونصبّها في الكعبة، ليصرف بها الناس عن عبادة الله وشريعة أبى الأنبياء إبراهيم عليه السلام. وأنا أفتح عينى بآخر إطلالة عبر أجواء مملكتى الافتراضية الشاسعة، كانت قمم جبال تهامة تمتد أمام شمس غاربة، يغلف تضاريسها لون أرجوانى عميق، يتخلل تفاصيلها.. دقائقها.. كل النتوءات التي تحمل آثار رحلات شتاء وصيف عبرت منذ سنين، هسيس بحور شعر، حداء قوافل تتناهى إلى سمعى لتعزف على أوتارها لحنها الأسطورى، مع أنين قطرات موت محقق يتبعنى كظلى، ثم النهاية بخديعة الملكة صوفيا وزوجها يوسطينوس الثانى هرقل القسطنطينية، كل ذلك كان يغلق في آخر طموحى الدائرة، والقمم العالية تحاصرنى، ويقينى بأنها حتما ستنهار فوق رأسى لتنهى الحلم المستحيل، والطموح القاتل الذى ثقب الرأس وتسرب عبر الوعى، وسود صفحات تاريخى، وأوعز لى بأن (الجبل. الحلم. الطموح) راسخ إلى يوم يبعثون.
