وسط دويّ انفجارات تتداعى معه مدينة البصرة دماراً وموتاً، رمزي وأحلام يشقّان هذا الخراب: يركضان مذعورين نائيين عن الجند المتقدمين منهما، يلجآن إلى إحدى الغرف، يتعانقان ويدخلان في قبلة عميقة. مدينةٌ تستعيدُ نسيجها روائيّاً في سردٍ راجعٍ، لتبدوَ نادية بتنورة بيضاء قصيرة وقميصٍ ورديٍّ بلا أكمام في ليلة زفافها، وليلفَّ جودي العجوزَ الميتَ المسجّى على حصيرة مهترئة في مأوى العجزة، وزهور التي سيتنافس على الفوز بها جوني البحار والملاّ جعفر... ليلة عاصفة لإخفاء منشورات حزب سياسيٍّ، وحسينيّةٌ، وليالٍ أخرى لمطاردة بين أهوار القصب، وحيُّ المبغى يخترقه علاّوي بمسدسه، وأم يوسف برسومها الجميلة، بينما الثوّار يمارسون بين شعاف الجبال التمرُّدَ والعشق... كلّ ذلك ريثما نرى من جديد قيامة المكان الذي ضخَّت فيه الروايةُ ما يضجُّ في أهل النخيل من حياةٍ وموت في أحياء البصرة .
