نستطيع أن نقول إنه واحد من أصحاب أكثر الكتب إثارة للجدل في العقدين الأخيرين على امتداد العالم العربي مثل: الإسلام الليبرالي بين الإخوان المسلمين والوسطيين والعلمانيين. الإسلام والغرب الأمريكي: نظرية في دوافع الصدام وإمكانية الحوار. حقيقة العلمانية والصراع بين الإسلاميين والعلمانيين. نظرية الفن الإسلامي. فالكاتب هو المفكر الإسلامي محمد إبراهيم مبروك والذي يوصف عادة بالتمرد، ويقصد بذلك استقلاله عن كل التيارات الإسلامية السائدة، حيث يجمع بين السلفية والتجديد، ويمثل المدفعية الثقيلة للإسلاميين في مواجهة العلمانيين في نفس الوقت الذي يتجاوز فيه أطروحاتهم ويطرح مشروعا إسلاميا بديلا. أما الكتاب الذي نحن بصدده فهو أخطر كتبه على الإطلاق، ليس من وجهة نظر النقاد فقط ولكن من وجهة نظره هو أيضا، فالكتاب بمثابة المدخل لفهم كل أطروحاته وتطورها ولكن الأهم من ذلك أن الكتاب جاء بمثابة بصيرة كاشفة للتفاعلات العقائدية والفلسفية والقيمية الحادثة في العالم، بل وداخل النفس الإنسانية في العقود الأخيرة تحت تأثير الانتشار المذهل للأفكار البراجماتية (النفعية) الأمريكية في المجتمعات الإنسانية. وقد تأكد نفاذ هذه البصيرة من استشراف الكتاب للكثير من النتائج المدمرة لانتشار هذه الأفكار، وكان من أهمها نظريته عن الإسلام البراجماتي (النفعي) والتي تتمثل الآن صورته الواقعية فيما يسمى الإسلام الليبرالي. لقد اتهم مبروك حين أخرج هذا الكتاب في أواخر الثمانينيات أنه يبالغ ويبالغ جدا. أما الآن فلم يعد هناك حديث عن الصراع العالمي أو الصراع الإنساني في السلوك اليومي، أو عن التحولات الدينية والأخلاقية والقيمية إلا ويدور حول هذه الفلسفة وهذا هو الإنجاز الرئيسي لمحمد إبراهيم مبروك في هذا الكتاب. أو كما يقول نفسه إن هذا الكتاب هو المدخل الأهم لفهم العالم الآن.
