غايتي في هذا البحث أن أفتش عن أثر النكسة في الشعر العربي الغنائي المعاصر – وأن أحدد ملامح شعرنا بعد النكسة؛ لذا فإن الدراسة الموضوعية تقتضينا أن نطالع خريطة الشعر العربي قبل ذلك بعقد من الزمان، وأن نحدد الملامح الأساسية للقصيدة العربية حينئذ، حتى يمكن تلمس العلامات الفارقة والخصائص الدالة، والمناحي الجديدة في كيان الشعر بعد ذلك، فلم تكن النكسة مجرد حدث عسكري وقع في الخامس من يونيو 1967، بل كانت هزيمة مروعة زلزلت العقل، وصدعت البنيان، وكسرت الوجدان العربي المحلق، بعد سنوات من بناء العقل والوجدان العربيين على نحو مضاد تماما لما وقع في الخامس من يونيو. وهكذا استقر الرأي على أن تكون فترة البحث بين أعوام 56 – 1973.
