تتناول هذه الدراسة إقليم نجد في الجزيرة العربية من القرن العاشر حتى منتصف القرن الرابع عشر الهجريين، للتعرف إلى دور العلماء والوقف والمكتبات في ازدهار الحركة العلمية في ذلك الإقليم، من خلال صناعة المخطوطات النجدية، وأدواتها العملية من خط ونسخ وزخرفة وتجليد، وإظهار خصائصها الفنية، ومقارنة المخطوطات النجدية بمثيلاتها في الأقاليم المجاورة. وتبرز الدراسة الحركة العلمية في نجد، متمثلة في الرحلات والتعليم والتأليف والنسخ، وتتناول طرق تداول المخطوطات النجدية، كالنسخ والاستكتاب والشراء والبيع والإهداء والإرث، وكذلك المواد المستخدمة في صناعتها من ورق وأحبار وأقلام ومواد تجليد، محللة محتويات تلك المخطوطات من حيث الشكل والعنوان والديباجة والعناوين الفرعية والهوامش والمسطرة والخاتمة والترقيم والخطوط والزخارف. كما تتناول العاملين في صناعة المخطوطات النجدية من نساخ وعلماء وقضاة ومحترفين وطلبة علم ومزوقين ومجلدين. وتوصلت الدراسة إلى نتيجة عامة مؤداها أن منطقة نجد خلال مدة الدراسة لم تكن حياة جهل وظلام ثقافي وإن بدت كذلك بسبب غياب المصادر التي تبرز تلك الحياة الثقافية والعلمية. وأن للنجديين عذرا في شح المعرفة ووسائلها لمشقة الانتقال والترحال إلى خارج نجد، ولقسوة بيئتها، وغياب السلطة المركزية السياسية الراعية للعلم والثقافة فيها، وانتشار التشرذم والتناحر والفرقة.
