يشكّل هذا الكتاب قراءة في أعمال الشيخ الدكتور سلطان بن محمد القاسمي المسرحية، مؤلف الكتاب كمال عبد الرحمن النعيمي، عالج فيه تجربة المؤلف القاسمي مع المسرح من خلال مسرحيات (عودة هولاكو) ، ومسرحية (القضية) ، ومسرحية (شمشون الجبار).
وفي الكتاب يبرز الكاتب النعيمي كيف ينتقي د. القاسمي أحداث مسرحياته، من خلال عرض خارطة التاريخ العربي – الإسلامي على منضدة الواقع، ثم كيف يختار أكثر النقاط إشكالاً وتوهجاً وإشراقاً، فهو يكتب بأسلوب صناعة الحاضر بـ (لبنات) الماضي المضيء أي إستنطاق الماضي لتشكيل بناء معاصر.
ما يميز هذا العرض أنه يمثل مادة تاريخية حيّة عن شخصيات تاريخية مؤثرة في أحداث التاريخ مثل: إحتلال المغول بغداد في مسرحية (عودة هولاكو) وكيفية القتال في القلاع، وانهيار الدولة الأموية في الأندلس في مسرحية (القضية) وكيف استسلمت غرناطة، هذا بالإضافة إلى اشتمال المسرحيتين (الواقع صورة طبق الأصل) ومسرحية (شمشون الجبار) على رؤية تأريخية تحليلية للأمكنة والسياسات.
يعتبر مؤلف الكتاب أن مسرحيات الدكتور القاسمي "تسعى إلى صناعة (المستقبل) بطرق مغايرة للتقليد والتباطؤ والشكوك، وتصنع الحاضر بإشعاع الماضي المجيد، بكل مكرماته ومعجزاته وصفعاته الزاهرة رغم المحن، وبين صناعة (حاضر متألق) و (مستقبل زاهر) تسعى هذه المسرحيات لتأسيس رؤية بنيوية عربية وإسلامية شاملة ومشرقة إلى الأبد ...".
