إن كاتب سطور هذا الكتاب يشعر، حينما يلتفت وراءه ويجول ببصره وبصيرته، بعيداً عن حاضره، يشعر وكأن السنين الستين التي مرت من حياته أشبه ما يكون فعلاً بنهر... نهر يمتد منبعه بعيداً إلى منتصف الثلاثينات من هذا القرن حيث يتصل بروافد آتية من مسافات أبعد، تنقل إليه ابتسامات وانطباعات وتوضيحات اندمجت بصورة أو بأخرى في مجراه الخاص الذي يتسع ويطبق حيناً، يفيض ماءه تارة ويجف أخرى، وهو يشق طريقه عبر معارج وإلتواءات ولف ودوران، حتى إذا مضى عليه ربع قرن أخذ في الانقسام إلى تيارين متوازيين، متداخلين ومنفصلين في الوقت نفسه: تغمر أحدهما تجربة سياسية، وتغمر الآخر اهتمامات وهموم ثقافية، ولا تزال التيارات يغتنيان... ويتنافسان في تكامل، أو قل يتكاملان في تنافس.
ومشروع هذه الحفريات التي عناها الكاتب في عنوان كتابه، يطمح إلى التحقق كاملاً في ثلاثة أجزاء. أولها هذا الذي نقلب صفحاته، وهو يغطي-بل "يعري"، فالحفر الأركولوجي تعرية-مرحلة ما قبل انقسام المسار إلى التيارين المذكورين: مرحلة الصبا والمراهقة وأوائل الشباب، والمواد التي يتعامل معها الكاتب في هذا الجزء، جميعها وقائع وقعت فعلاً، ليس فيها قصة ولا تخيل، ولا "خلق" ولا "ابتكار"... ولكنها كجميع "المواد" لا تنطق بنفسها إلا عن وجودها الزمني، إذ لا تملك إلا هويتها الوجودية... أما ما عدا ذلك فهو قراءة يحاول من خلالها استنطاق معنى ما كان له معنى، وإعطاء نوع من المعنى لما كان يقدم نفسه بلا معنى. وختام القول أن قراءة الكاتب تلك جاءت ضمن نص بياني يعرض ذكريات شخصية، ويتغذى من مخزون ثقافي معين، ويوظف الصورة والإشارة والتلميح والرمز، إلى جانب ما قد يكون هناك من تدفق العفوية وإبداع السليقة.
