كلود ليفي شتراوس (بالفرنسية: Claude Lévi-Strauss)؛ (28 نوفمبر 1908 - 30 أكتوبر 2009)، عالم اجتماع فرنسي. بدأ ليفي شتراوس تكوينه بدراسة الفلسفة غير أن هذه النظريات المجردة الاعتباطية البعيدة عن الواقع الاجتماعي ما لبثت أن خيبت آماله, فسافر إلى البرازيل حيث درّس علم الاجتماع واكتشف أعمال علماء الإنسان الأميركيين (غير المعروفة في أوروبا آنذاك) مثل بواس وكروبر ولووي . وبعد عودته إلى فرنسا سنة 1948 قدّم أطروحتة المتعلقة بالمشاكل النظرية للقرابة . انتخب أستاذًا في كوليج دو فرانس سنة 1959 وشغل كرسي الأنثروبولوجيا الاجتماعية الذي كان ل مارسيل موس من قبله. فكان لأعمال ليفي شتراوس وعلمه أكبر الأثر في مجال علم الإنسان والتحقيق الإثنولوجي الميداني.

عام 1952 نشرت الأونيسكو مجموعة من الكتيبات المكرسة لمشكلة العنصرية في العالم. من بين تلك الكتيبات واحد لكلود ليفي-شتراوس بعنوان "العرق والتاريخ" قدم فيه محاولة مقتضبة تجاوزت موضوعها كثيراً فكانت مدخلاً لتأمل جديد حول الثقافة الغربية، ومعنى الحضارة، والسمة الاحتمالية للزمن التاريخي، الخ. لقد كانت في الواقع، بعض مبادئ الفكر الحالي للمؤلف وقد تمت صياغتها، دون تقنية مفرطة وبلغة واضحة ودقيقة دائماً. ولكن في تلك الحقبة كان ليفي-شتراوس الذي نشر لثلاث سنوات خلت كتاب "البنى الأصلية للقرابة" Les structures elementaires de la parente، معروفاً لدى المتخصصين وحسب، كان ما يزال "الأستاذ" كلود ليفي-شتراوس. أما اليوم فقد بات سيد البنيوية الذي يعرف اسمه جمهور عريض. كان تقديرنا أنه من المهم بمكان أن نعيد إلى التداول هذا الكتيب الذي فقد من المكتبات منذ عدة سنوات.
