كلود ليفي شتراوس (بالفرنسية: Claude Lévi-Strauss)؛ (28 نوفمبر 1908 - 30 أكتوبر 2009)، عالم اجتماع فرنسي. بدأ ليفي شتراوس تكوينه بدراسة الفلسفة غير أن هذه النظريات المجردة الاعتباطية البعيدة عن الواقع الاجتماعي ما لبثت أن خيبت آماله, فسافر إلى البرازيل حيث درّس علم الاجتماع واكتشف أعمال علماء الإنسان الأميركيين (غير المعروفة في أوروبا آنذاك) مثل بواس وكروبر ولووي . وبعد عودته إلى فرنسا سنة 1948 قدّم أطروحتة المتعلقة بالمشاكل النظرية للقرابة . انتخب أستاذًا في كوليج دو فرانس سنة 1959 وشغل كرسي الأنثروبولوجيا الاجتماعية الذي كان ل مارسيل موس من قبله. فكان لأعمال ليفي شتراوس وعلمه أكبر الأثر في مجال علم الإنسان والتحقيق الإثنولوجي الميداني.

الانثروبولوجيا البنيوية يختفي كل كتاب في المجال هذا دون كلود ليفي ستروس، آخر أساتذة الفكر البنيوي والذي لعب دورا حاسما في المجرى الفكري للقرن العشرين. فتح قارات نظرية جديدة في العلوم الإنسانية، وبخاصة في علم الإثنولوجيا الذي أحدث في مجالاته وأساليب مقارباته ثورة كوبيرنيكية شبيهة بالثورة التي أنجزها سيغموند فرويد في مجال التحليل النفسي. توفى يوم سبت عن سن يناهز 101 سنة، بعد أن احتفت فرنسا والعديد من الجامعات الدولية بمائوية ولادته في نونبر من السنة الماضية. ولد كلود ليفي ستروس في 28 من نونبر 1908 ببروكسيل من أبوين فرنسيين نشر ملاحظاته في كتاب صدر سنة 1948 ثم في كتابه المشهور "المدارات الحزينة" (1955). ثم اكتشف أثناء الحرب العالمية الثانية أعمال رومان جاكوبسون واللسانيات البنيوية التي اعتبرها منهجًا علميًا حقيقيًا مطبّقًا على الظواهر الإنسانية سيستقيه في ما بعد لابتكار نماذج تفسيرية جديدة من شأنها الكشف عن الدوافع الذهنية التي تعطي والواقع الاجتماعي وثقافي شكله. بعد عودته إلى فرنسا سنة 1948 قدّم أطروحة عن المشاكل النظرية للقرابة (1949).
