بول ريكور (بالفرنسية: Paul Ricœur ) فيلسوف فرنسي وعالم إنسانيات معاصر ولد في فالينس، شارنت، 27 فبراير 1913، وتوفي في شاتيناي مالابري، 20 مايو 2005. هو واحد من ممثلي التيار التأويلي، اشتغل في حقل الاهتمام التأويلي ومن ثم بالاهتمام بالبنيوية، وهو امتداد لفريديناند دي سوسير. يعتبر ريكور رائد سؤال السرد. أشهر كتبه (نظرية التأويل -التاريخ والحقيقة-الزمن والحكي- الخطاب وفائض المعنى - Interpretation philosophic theory - Discourse and the Surplus of Meaning / من منشورات جامعة تكساس المسيحية عام 1976).

المقالات الأربع التي يتكون منها هذا الكتاب تقوم على المحاضرات التي ألقاها "بول ريكور" في جامعة تكساس المسيحية، 23-30 نوفمبر (تشرين الثاني) 1973 كمحاضرات مئوية. وهي يمكن أن تقرأ منفصلة، ولكنها يمكن أن تقرأ أيضاً كمقتربات تسلك خطوة فخطوة لحل مشكلة واحدة، وهي مشكلة لغة الفهم على صعيد نتاجات مثل القصائد والحكايات والمقالات، وساء أكانت أدبية أو فلسفية.
بعبارة أخرى، تراهن هذه المقالات الأربع على مشكلة مركزية هي مشكلة الأعمال، ولا سيما اللغة عملاً. ولن يتحقق الإمساك الكامل بهذه المشكلة حتى المقالة الرابعة، التي تهتم بموقفين يندلع الصراع بينهما وضحاً هما التفسير والفهم، تتقدم نظرية النص، التي تنبثق من هذه المناقشة، خطوة أخرى نحو سؤال التعدد اللفظي، الذي ينتمي إلى الكلمات وحدها (الترادف)، أو حتى إلى الجمل (الغموض)، بل إلى أعمال الخطاب الكاملة كالقصائد والحكايات والمقالات. وتمثل مشكلة التعدد اللفظي هذه التي نوقشت في المقالة الثالث، نقلة حاسمة لمشكلة التأويل الذي يحكمه حول التفسير والفهم، الذي أشار المؤلف إلى أنه يشكل أفق هذه المجموعة من المقالات بأسرها.
