هذا الكتاب هو أوّل دراسة علميّة تتناول القضايا المعاصرة المتعلّقة بلغاتنا، وتلقي الضوء على لغة أهل الشّمال العربي، المعروفة بإسمَي الشّاميّة واللّبنانيّة، من منظور علوم اللسّانيات الحديثة.
يتضمّن الكتاب فصلًا عن الإطار النّظريّ للبحث يتطرق إلى علوم الصّوت والكتابة والنّحو والصّرف والدّلالة والتّداول والبلاغة.
كذلك يتضمّن دراسة قابَلْتُ فيها سمات اللّبنانيّة بخصائص اللّغة بشكل عامّ، وبماهيّة اللّغة الأمّ بحسب علم الألسن الحديث؛ وقابلتها كذلك بالفصحى، مُبيِّنًا أنّ اللبنانية تحتوي جميع العناصر المطلوبة من اللّغات بغية تَـأهـيـلـها للنّجاح من خلال تنفيذ الأدوار التي يحتاج إليها أي شعب من لغته. فنَقَّبْتُ عن مُكوّنات لغتنا، ثمّ صنّفتها وصَيَّرْتُها اللُّبنات الأولى لعلوم هذه اللّغة.
