اعتقل ضافي الجمعاني عام 1957 على خلفية الاتهام لحركة الضباط الأحرار بمحاولة الانقلاب على الملك الحسين بن طلال. بعد خروجه من السجن إثر عفو عام أصدره الملك الحسين عام 1962.
