صدرت كتب عن الأردن، ونشرت دراسات وبحوث يصعب حصرها، عدا عن الدراسات والبحوث ورسائل الماجستير والدكتوراه غير المنشورة، احتوت جلها جوانب من جغرافية الأردن، وتمحور معظمها على مناطق محددة من الأردن، بحيث أنها كانت شديدة التخصص سواء من حيث الموضوع أو المنطقة والجهة.
يتناول هذا الكتاب جغرافية الأردن بعناصرها المختلفة قدر الإمكان ووضعنا نصب أعيننا أن لا يكون بالمفصل المطور، ولا بالموجز المبتسر.
قسم الكتاب إلى ستة فصول، تناول الفصل الأول الظروف الطبيعية للأردن (عدا المناخ)، وهي: جيولوجية الأردن، والتربة والثورة المعدنية، ومظاهر السطح، وخصص الفصل الثاني لمناخ الأردن بعناصر المناخ المختلفة والمياه.
وتضمن الفصل الثالث سكان الأردن، من حيث نموهم وتوزعهم حسب العمر والجنس، والعوامل والأسباب التي تؤثر فيها.
ولأهمية الزراعة في الأردن خصص لها الفصل الرابع، حيث درست من حيث المشاكل التي تواجهها الزراعة، والمساحات المزروعة والإنتاج والعوامل المؤثرة في ذلك.
وأفرد الفصل الخامس للصناعة والتجارة والسياحة، والفصل السادس للنقل والاتصالات، لما هذا القطاع من أهمية لعلاقته بكافة القطاعات الاقتصادية الكبرى.
والكتاب هذا جهد متواضع في مجال جغرافية الأردن، والأمل أن يتم تدارك ما به من قصور وهنات في طبعات لاحقة، فالمرء لا يبلغ الكمال في أي عمل من الأعمال، مهما بلغ من سعة المعرفة والعلم ومهما بذل من جهد، ومهما امتلك من قوة الإدراك.
