أربعون قصيدة من الشعر الحديث التفعيلي والنثري، يستعرض فيها الشاعر إمكاناته اللغوية والفنية، بل يكتب بعض القصائد المحافظة- أعنى العمودية- ليبرهن على أن القدرة الشعرية تظهر وتكتب في أي شكل من أشكال النص الشعري، إلا أن المرأة والذات الشاعرة يتفاعلان باستمرار ليتحدث النص عن الحب، عن الجمال، عن الخيانة، وعن الاخلاص.
ترتفع الوتيرة في بعض النصوص للتتحول المرأة في الدنيا وما فيها من شر أولا ثم ما فيها من مودة أحياناً! وقد يتطرق الشاعر لمشاهدة غريزية أو مشاهد دموية، لكن قلب الشاعر يعود ليقف بجانب الحق والخير والجمال، ولأنه شاعر متفلسف يرى العالم في دهشة المتفلسف وبنظرة الفيلسوف فإنه لا يعطي فكراً مباشراً كما سترى أيضاً القارئ.
أدت الدهشة في تلك القصائد إلى مجازية شعرية من نوع خاص بخالد الصاوي، إنه خيال المندهش بالعالم والذي يرى الذات فاعلة فى تفاصيل الحياة، ومفعولة بالحياة. نحن أمام شاعر يقوم بدور البطولة في القصيدة فتلتهب الذات الشاعرة وتتضخم، فترى الحياة مكتفة ومتراكبة، ليست بسيطة أو ساذجة، من هنا يأخذ الشاعر حذره دائماً من الحياة حتى لا يقع في شرورها.
