أندريه بروتون André Breton، كاتب ومفكر فرنسي ولد في تَنْشِبري Tinchebray بفرنسة، والتحق إثر إنهائه دراسته الثانوية بكلية الطب، وفي عام 1915 استُدعي إلى الخدمة العسكرية الإلزامية، وأوكل إليه، العمل في قسم العيادة النفسية، مما أتاح له الاطِّلاع على مؤلفات فرويد[ر] في علم النفس، والتعمُّق في دراستها، وقد توثقت عُرى الصداقة، آنئذ، بينه وبين أراغون[ر] Aragon وسوبولت Soupault وانضموا جميعاً، بعد انتهاء الحرب العالمية الأولى، إلى الحركة الدادائية[ر] Dadaïsme التي كان تريستان تزارا[ر] Tristan Tzara قد أنشأها في مدينة زوريخ عام 1916، وأصدر هؤلاء صحيفة «الأدب» ما بين عامي 1919 و1921 لتكون منبراً لآرائهم الجريئة وقصائدهم، وتنفسح من ثَمَّ للحركة السريالية المتحدِّرة منها.

في سرد هذا الكتاب لهجة الملاحظة الطبية ولا سيما العصبية النفسانية التي تميل إلى حفظ أثر كل ما يكشف عنه الفحص والاستجواب، دون التفات إلى أي تنميق إنشاء و سيلاحظ خلال القراءة أن هذا العزم الساهر على أن لا يأتي ما يغير شيئاً في الوثيقة المأخوذة عن الواقع الحي ولا أيضاً في شخص نادجا مطبق هنا على أشخاص آخرين. والعري المقصود لمثل هذه الكتابة قد أسهم ولا ريب في تجديد قرائه بأبعاده نقطة الهرب إلى ما وراء المعتاد من الحدود. إن الذاتية والموضوعية تتبادلان في أثناء حياة إنسانية سلسلة من الهجمات تخرج منها الأولى في أغلب الأحيان على أسوأ حال. فبعد خمس وثلاثين سنة وهي مدة كافية لتعتيق شديد فإن العنايات الطفيفة التي قررت أن أحيط بها الثانية لا تدل إلا على بعض التقدير للتعبير الأفضل الذي تقيم له وزناً على أن غير ما تتمتع به الأولى التي تظل تهمني أكثر كائن في رسالة الحب المشحونة بأخطاء وفي الكتب الماجنة غير مضبوطة الإملاء.
