إن مؤلف كتاب "منتهى الإرادات في الجمع بين المقنع مع التنقيح وزيادات" هو العلامة الشهير قاضي القضاة في الديار المصرية في زمانه "محمد تقي الدين" المعروف بابن النجار الحنبلي. ولد هذا المصنف في مصر ومات بها في حدود سنة 972. وقد تلقى العلم في صغره عن والده وغيره ثم رحل إلى الشام وأقام فيه مدة ثم رجع إلى مصر. ويعد كتاب المنهى هذا من أهم تصانيفه وذلك لأنه جمع فيه بين كتاب "المقنع" لشيخ المذهب عبد الله بن أحمد بن قدامة و"التنقيع المشبع لتحرير أحكام المقنع" تأليف العلامة الشيخ علي بن سليمان المرداوي صاحب الإنصاف. وقد أثنى العلماء على كتاب المنتهى، وعدوه من أهم الكتب المدونة في بابها، ومن حين ألف هذا الكتاب الجليل عكف عليه علماء الحنابلة وقدموه على غيره واعتمدوا عليه في الحفظ والتدريس والإفتاء والقضاء وكتبوا عليه عدة شروح. وما اعتنى العلماء بهذا الكتاب إلا لما ظهر لهم من تحقيق مؤلفه والمبالغة في تحريره وبنائه على الراجح من المذهب المعوّل عليه في القضاء والإفتاء.
