كلود ليفي شتراوس (بالفرنسية: Claude Lévi-Strauss)؛ (28 نوفمبر 1908 - 30 أكتوبر 2009)، عالم اجتماع فرنسي. بدأ ليفي شتراوس تكوينه بدراسة الفلسفة غير أن هذه النظريات المجردة الاعتباطية البعيدة عن الواقع الاجتماعي ما لبثت أن خيبت آماله, فسافر إلى البرازيل حيث درّس علم الاجتماع واكتشف أعمال علماء الإنسان الأميركيين (غير المعروفة في أوروبا آنذاك) مثل بواس وكروبر ولووي . وبعد عودته إلى فرنسا سنة 1948 قدّم أطروحتة المتعلقة بالمشاكل النظرية للقرابة . انتخب أستاذًا في كوليج دو فرانس سنة 1959 وشغل كرسي الأنثروبولوجيا الاجتماعية الذي كان ل مارسيل موس من قبله. فكان لأعمال ليفي شتراوس وعلمه أكبر الأثر في مجال علم الإنسان والتحقيق الإثنولوجي الميداني.

لطالما انشغل كلود ليفي شتراوس بهاجس البحث عن العمق.
فهو لم يكفّ يوما عن القناعة بأن ما هو مرئي يخفي واقعا آخر أكثر عمقا، وأن هدف العلم هو أن يسبر هذا العمق حيث تختفي الحقيقة، أو القانون الأساسي، أو البنية.
وباختصار، فقد كان طموح بنيوية شتراوس أن يزيح الستار عن خصائص العقل الكونية اللاواعية.
فمنذ تأثره بالألسنية التي تعلمها، والتي انتهت به ليكون احد أعمدة البنيوية، راح يحدوه حلم الصرامة العلمية، وحاول أن ينقل كل ذلك إلى ميادين الأنثروبولوجيا، والأسطورة، والفكر البري، والطوطمية، وأنظمة التواصل والتبادل والتاريخ والموسيقى والأدب.. واختصار، إلى معظم الميادين التي تطاولها الأنثروبولوجيا ومعظم ما يندرج في إطار التمثلات الذهنية والثقافية، كل ذلك بمنهج بنيوي ربما لم يمثله أي أحد آخر من القامات البنيوية الرفيعة كما مثله شتراوس.
