من بين أثير "مملكة السرمد" ونقوش التاريخ النوبي العتيق، تولد هذه المقدمة لتكون عتبة الدخول إلى عالم الرواية:
مـقـدمـة الـروايـة
هل الزمن مجرد عقارب تدور بانتظام فوق جدار بارد، أم أنه وعاء حيّ يفيض بالحكايا والأسرار؟
في قلب الخرطوم، وبين أروقة جامعة الصفوة العتيقة، لم يكن الأخوان "مهند" و"جواد" يعلمان أن شغفهما بمداد الكلمات وتدوين التاريخ سيقودهما إلى برزخ فاصل بين عالمين. هناك، حيث تلاشت جدران الواقع لتبتلعهما "مملكة السرمد"؛ العالم الأثيري الساحر الذي يقيس الوقت بنقاء الضياء وعمق الأنفاس، وتحكمه الملكة العظيمة "إليزابيث" بكبرياء يمتد عبر القرون.
لم تكن المصادفة هي ما قاد الشابين، ومعهما "لين" التي لحقت بهما بقلب واجف ودعاء لم ينقطع، بل هو عهد قديم وضعه جدهم الأكبر "أحمد"؛ عهد تجسد في ثلاثة أساور نحاسية منقوشة بالرموز النوبية القديمة، استيقظت فجأة لتعلن بدء ملحمة جديدة.
في هذا العالم، الكلمات ليست حبراً يجف على ورق، بل هي كائنات حية تولد من يقين القلوب وصلوات المستغفرين. وبواسطة كتاب "ممالك الشمال" ومحبرة الأزل، يصبح المداد هو السيف والصدق هو الدرع. فبينما يئن الحارس القديم في "مملكة كاروما" تحت وطأة صقيع أسود يهدد بتجميد الوقت في العوالم كلها، يجد الحراس الثلاثة أنفسهم أمام مسؤولية لم تخطر لهم على بال... أن يخطوا بأيديهم تاريخ الدفاع عن النور، أو يغرق عالمهم في ليل دائم لا تشرق له شمس.
