إن نمط الحكم العربي يجعل من الخليفة أو الوالي أو السلطان ملكًا معصومًا؛ فلا يسمح لأحد بانتقاده وهو حي يُرزق. مسموح للجميع أن يبالغوا في مدحه وفي حصر مآثره، وفي تسليط الضوء على مواهبه والاعتراف بعبقريته. وتدور الأسطوانة على هذا الوجه ما دام الخليفة حيًّا؛ فإذا مات الخليفة، قلبوا الأسطوانة على الوجه الآخر، وهو دائمًا عكس الوجه الأول، وبينهما مسافة لا تقل بُعدًا عن المسافة بين الأرض والمريخ!
ولذلك، فكرنا - ولله الحمد - أن نلقي نظرة على تاريخ مصر من تاني. نظرة رجل من الشارع غير متخصص وغير كمساري وعلى غير علاقة رسمية بالتاريخ. وسنعيد النظر من جديد - وفي هدوء - على التاريخ كله، بعد أن مات الخلفاء والسلاطين والأمراء والكمسارية البصاصون. وسنحاول أن نجرد التاريخ من السلطة ومن أبهة الحكم ومن أجهزة المباحث والمخابرات.
وسيكون الفرق بيننا وبين المؤرخين الكمسارية، أن مصر في نظر المحترفين هي سلسلة طويلة من الأمراء والملوك والسلاطين، ولكنها في نظر العبد لله مجموعة متصلة من الأجيال والصياع وأصحاب الحاجات والمتشردين.
