• ولد في بني سويف بجمهورية مصر العربية عام 1943.
حصل على درجتي الماجستير والدكتوراه في علم الاجتماع من جامعة القاهرة عامي 1969، 1972.
• تدرب في وظائف باحث مساعد حتى خبير بالمركز القومي للبحوث الاجتماعية والجنائية بالجيزة.
وشغل وظيفة نائب رئيس وحدة بحوث الرأي العام والإعلام.
• عمل مشرفا على وحدة التنمية الريفية والسكان بجهاز السكان بالقاهرة.
انتقل إلى جامعة عين شمس وعمل مدرسا عام 1973 ثم أستاذا مساعدا (مشاركا) عام 1978.
• حائز على جائزة الدولة المصرية للتفوق في العلوم الاجتماعية، مصر 2002، وله عدة بحوث إقليمية ومصرية حول السكان والتنمية وتمكين الأسرة العربية وقضايا الشباب والسياسات الاجتماعية في البلاد العربية، وله العديد من المؤلفات المنشورة في علم الاجتماع.

- البحث الاجتماعي 1974.
- مطالعات نقدية في الاتجاه السوفيتي في علم الاجتماع 1977.
- الصراع الطبقي في القرية المصرية 1977.
- توزيع الفقر في القرية المصرية 1978.
- الإعلام وتزييف الوعي 1978.
-نشر عدد من الدراسات حول السكان والتنمية وعلم اجتماع الأدب، التحليل البنائي للفساد في الريف المصري نشرت بدوريات ومجلات مصرية وعربية.

الكتاب يرصد التغيرات التي عايشتها الطبقات الاجتماعية الأساسية في المجتمع المصري ما بين سنة 1970 وحتى 2000، وصولا إلى رصد معلوماتي ومعرفي يمكن من استشراف البدائل المستقبلية للمجتمع المصري. تلك البدائل المشروطة بسيناريوهات مفترضة : المرجعي والرأسمالي الجديد، والدول الإسلامية ،الاشتراكية الجديدة، والتآزر الاجتماعي .
والهدف الأساسي من هذا هو تحليل العلاقات الجدلية بين الطبقات وهذه السيناريوهات، تطلعا لبلورة وعي مستقبلي بمشروع تنموي مصري يقوم على الكفاءة والمشاركة والعدالة والإبداع والتجديد الحضاري، كشروط ضرورية لإستدامة التنمية وتواصلها عبر الزمن.
