اشتُهِرَ الكَثِيرُ مِن حِكايَاتِ المُحِبِّينَ عَبْرَ العُصُورِ العَرَبِية، وأَصبَحَتْ ثُنائِيَّاتُ العِشْقِ كعَنتَرةَ وعَبلَة، وقَيْسٍ ولَيلَى، فِي الوِجدَانِ العَرَبِي. وفِي هَذا الكِتابِ التُراثِيِّ المُتمَيِّز، الذِي كُتِبَ فِي الأَلفِيَّةِ الهِجرِيَّةِ الأُولَى، سردٌ لقِصَصِ العُشَّاقِ عَبْرَ التَّارِيخِ العَرَبِي، حيثُ يَضَعُ الكاتِبُ الشَّيخُ «أَحمَد السَّرَّاج القارِئ» بَيْنَ يَدَينا مَجمُوعَةً مُتمَيِّزةً مِنَ الحِكايَاتِ الوَاقِعيَّة، بِنَزعَةٍ صُوفِيَّةٍ أَحيَانًا، ورُوحٍ عَرَبِيةٍ خالِصَة، عَن كُلِّ مَا يَتعَلقُ بالعُشَّاق، بِكافَّةِ أَطيافِهِم، بِدَايَةً مِنَ الخُلفَاءِ والأُمَرَاء، وَوُصولًا إِلى الفُقَراء، والشَّبَابِ والكُهَّل؛ لِيَجعَلَهُ بِذَلِكَ مَرجِعًا لقِصَصِ هَؤُلاءِ الذِينَ صَرَعَهم الحُب. وقَد جَمَعَ فِي رِوايَاتِهِ خَلِيطًا مِنَ القِصَصِ التِي كانَتْ فِي عَصرِ الجَاهِليَّةِ والدَّولَةِ الأُمَويَّةِ والعَبَّاسِيَّة؛ مِمَّا يُتِيحُ لِلقَارِئِ أَن يَعرِفَ تَفَاصِيلَ حَياةِ العَرَبِ خِلالَ تِلكَ العُصُور.
