كوثى القديمة مدينة اثرية عريقة ، ممتدة على مساحة شاسعة مترامية الاطراف ، ولها توابع من المدن والقصبات ، يرجع تاريخها الى اكثر من ستة الاف سنة، فيها ولد سيدنا ابراهبم الخليل عليه السلام، على افضل الروايات المنقولة عن الامام علي عليه السلام. واستمرت كوثى عامرة في العهود اللاحقة حتى نهاية الدولة العباسية وما بعدها. وعلى الرغم من حصولنا على معلومات قيمة عن كوثى القديمة لكنها تبقى قاصرة مادامت التنقيبات الاثارية في اطلالها غائبة تنتظرمن يسبر غورها ويفصح عن مكنونها من الكنوز المعرفية المدفونة تحت التراب .
