ولد الدكتور عبد العزيز الدسوقي عام 1925 بمركز قويسنا بمحافظة المنوفية، وهو حاصل على الدكتوراه في الأدب من جامعة عين شمس.
ترأس تحرير مجلة الثقافة، كما ترأس المركز القومي للآداب بوزارة الثقافة المصرية.
توفي في الرابع والعشرين من شهر يوليو عام 2015 بالقاهرة.

يحتوي هذا الكتاب للمؤلف عبد العزيز الدسوقي على العديد من المقالات الهامة حول أبي الطيب المتنبي، والكتاب ينقسم إلى قسمين، القسم الأول عبارة عن رؤية فنية ويتكون من 15 مقالة، وهذا القسم يناول المتنبي من الناحية النفسية وظروف عصره، وأحزانه ومأساته، ورؤيته الفنية وأشعاره، وغير ذلك من المحاور الهامة، أما القسم الثاني الممتع فهو عبارة عن دراسات عن المتنبي، ويتكون من 5 مقالات، نجد فيها المتنبي بين محمود شاكر وطه حسين وغير ذلك من الأطروحات والدراسات المقدمة عن هذا الرجل.
