تختبئ الأزمنة في واحد من شوارع بغداد العريقة، تنزوي في ثنايا كُتب طُبعتْ منذ أن حمل الوالي العثماني مدحت باشا مطبعته الحجرية التي صُنعت في برلين واستُخدمت لعامين في إسطنبول وهي تُنجز تصاميم ومخطوطات خطاطٍ عثمانيّ شهير اسمه عزة أبدي، ثم جُلبت إلى بغداد لتُطبع أول صحيفة عراقية والمسماة الزوراء.
وقد عُهدَ بإستيراد حبر المطبعة إلى التاجر اليهودي شومئيل فرقان الذي بدأ يستوردها من دلهي.
حرص شومئيل على الإشتراك في الصحيفة ليتابع جودة الحبر المطبوع على الورق الأسمر، وتيقّن أنه لن يفقد بريقه وسيظلّ لامعاً لسنواتٍ طوال، وعندما رفعت شركة الهند الشرقية أجور النقل على سفنها، تحمّل هو فرق السعر وظلّ يبيع حبره للمطبعة بالسعر ذاته، لأنه عشق الكلمة المطبوعة.
