عن الرواية: في روايته “451 فهرنهايت” يرسم الأميركي راي برادبوري (1920 – 2012) صورة مرعبة للمستقبل المنظور متوقعا عودة حقبة مؤلمة في أميركا والعالم، وهي المرحلة التي شهدت الإرهاب الفكري والثقافي المنطلق من أحكام سياسية مسبقة ومواقف شمولية.
وتأتي الرواية تحت تأثير ما عرفت بالحقبة المكارثية في أميركا (نسبة إلى السيناتور جوزيف مكارثي 1908 – 1957) في بداية خمسينيات القرن الماضي أثناء الحرب الباردة والاتهامات والمطاردات التي طالت العديد من الأدباء والكتاب والسياسيين في الولايات المتحدة وأقصت كثيرا منهم بتهمة الشيوعية.
تدور أحداث الرواية -التي نشرتها دار الساقي اللبنانية مؤخرا في ترجمة لسعيد العظم- في المستقبل، حيث يتخيل الكاتب نظاما شموليا يغزو العالم ويعمل على حرق الكتب على درجة 451 فهرنهايت، ويجعل التلفزيون أداته الرئيسة في الهيمنة على العقول، يعلن قاعدته النارية التي تقول بوجوب حرق الكتب والبيوت التي تخبئها أيضا.
تكون الفصول الثلاثة في الرواية: “الموقد والسمندل”، “الغربال والرمل”، “الاحتراق بنار متوهّجة” سبلا للإنذار من خطر الانسياق وراء جنون الآلة ومساعي إفراغ البشر من الهموم الإنسانية والوجودية وتسطيح المعرفة ومحاربة الحكمة.
